Dunas Golf Course at the Top of Leading Courses
Dunas Golf Course has once again achieved a top spot in the international golf scene. Developed by Vanguard Properties and located in Terras da Comporta, the course designed by David McLay-Kidd has just been named the best golf course in the Top 100 Bookable Golf Courses 2025 by the prestigious Dutch platform Leading Courses. Opened in 2023, the Dunas Golf Course now leads this list of the best golf courses in the world available for booking.
Out of thousands of courses reviewed, Dunas Golf Course stood out for its unique combination of design, playing experience, and quality of service. It received the highest rating from users of the platform, which includes golfers from all over the world, with scores that are independently audited.
“This recognition is a clear sign that Portugal continues to stand out as a top golf destination,” says Rodrigo Ulrich, Golf Director at Terras da Comporta. “The Dunas Golf Course is the result of a demanding and sustainable vision, created to highlight Comporta’s unique landscape and offer an unforgettable experience to all who visit us.”
This 18-hole course is the first in Portugal designed by David McLay-Kidd, an internationally respected golf architect known for famous courses like Bandon Dunes on the U.S. west coast. Built in harmony with the dune ecosystem and with strong environmental care in the choice of materials and resource management, the Dunas Golf Course has been attracting golfers from around the world and gaining recognition in major golf publications, having already won several international awards.
In addition to Dunas, the Leading Courses ranking also includes three other Portuguese courses among the top 100 in Europe, showing the importance of Portugal in this sector, which, according to Turismo de Portugal, contributes significantly to boosting tourism during the low season.
Leading Courses is currently the largest independent golf course database in Europe. Its Top 100 Bookable ranking is considered a reliable guide based on real player experiences. The 2025 list features top courses from all over the world, but this year, Portugal leads the way.
