Anna Westerlund at WhiteShell

Following Vanguard Properties’ policy of including art in all its projects, Whiteshell, the tourist condominium from Vanguard Properties in Porches, Algarve, will feature a number of works by Anna Westerlund.

The ceramics artist who has already collaborated with various pieces designed as part of the decor and lighting of the various Whiteshell interiors, decided to accept the challenge given her by Vanguard Properties to get even more involved in this project by creating a series of artworks for the shared areas and apartments. 

To crystalise this new step in her creative journey, Anna Westerlund was inspired by the Algarve’s geography and the region’s characteristic light and a natural colour palette marked by warm earthy tones and the infinite blue of the sea and sky reflected in her work.

The architecture designed by Saraiva + Associates studio was another source of inspiration for the artist who explored the geometry and drama of the light interplay which can be seen here and there, combined with the plasticity of the materials to create a language of formal balance and harmony. 

The tactile quality which has a fundamental role in Anna Westerlund’s approach, runs through the range of works in which the artist remains equally faithful to the organic and natural language so characteristic of her work as a ceramic artist. Her pieces also echo the marine art and fishing traditions which add regional accents in her work which will soon be seen at Whiteshell.
